POEM : AN ART WITHOUT DRAWING

 

Poem is a form of writing that uses not only words, but also form patterns of sound, imagery and figurative language to convey the message. In general, poem deals with particular things in concrete language, since our emotion most readily response to these things . From the poem's particular situation ,the reader may then generalise; the generalities arise by implication from the particular . In other words , a poem is  most often concrete and particular; the "message" , if there is any , is general and abstract; it is implied by the image. Images , in turn , suggest meanings beyond the mere identity  of the specific object. Poem 'plays ' with meaning when it identifies resemblances or makes comparisons between things .

 



A poem is not only a part of literature, but also a picture that the poet wants to draw without making any drawing. A poem contains so many characteristics - 

Rhythm - One of the most important characteristic of poem is that it is rhythmic. But, a poem can be made by without rhythm also , it is not compulsory to have a rhythm in all poem. But, it is beautiful when the poem can be recite with proper rhythm.

Imagery- A poet must use imagery in their poems. People frequently use imagery as a means of communicating feelings, thoughts and ideas through descriptive knowledge.So, to make a poem realistic; it is very much essential to use imagery in their poems.

IMAGINATION IS A VITAL PART IN THE PROCESS OF WRITING A POEM

 

Simile- Various stimuli can be used in a poem to increase it's beauty.Similes are very much important for developing the quality of a poem.

Imaginative- A poem is rarely based on reality. It is mainly based on some imaginary things.Poem is mainly an imaginative idea.

Symbolic- A poem is always symbolic. Some symbols are used to define something in a poem.

These are some of the characteristics of a poem. Actually, a poem doesn't contain only these characteristics. It is varied from topic to topic or poet to poet.



Assamese Poem : An Outlook

Assamese literature is enrich with different poems written by different poets. From the very early period , Assamese literature is equipped with various kind of activities. At first, we can say about the' sorjya Pod' , which is very famous among all. Sorjya Pod is the most ancient part of assamese poem.After that, in ' Boisnob ' era ; Sankardev and Madhabadev started writing on assamese poem in ' Brojaboli' language.After that,  ' Abahon, Posua, Jayanti, Bahi 'came ; which are some of the renowned magazine at that time and those magazine gave some scope to everyone to write . This way, the range of writing assamese poem has been increasing. After that, in the modern era, the style of assamese poem is changing . Various new components have been taken place in the field of writing poem.

The field of Assamese literature is enriched with many activities doing by different poets. Among them, here i would like to write about some of the renowned poet of Assam.

Nalinibala Devi- Nalinibala Devi was one of the most famous poetess of Assamese Literature.She was a mystical poet and she was also famous for her famous works namely, ' xondhiyar xur', 'Xopunor xur', 'Alakananda' etc. She has been awarded with ' Padmashree Award'.

Nirmal Prabha Bordoloi- She was also known as ' NILA BAIDEU'.Nirmal Prabha Bordoloi  has done very great job in the field of assamese poem. She has written many poems for children. She was famous poetess of assamese literature. '' Bon foringor rong'' ,'' Samipesu'','' Antarang'' are some of the famous work of her.

Hiren Bhattacharya- He was famous for writing his poems which are based on nature. Hiren Bhattacharya is famously known as '' Hiru Da''. Some of the famous poem of Hiru Da are- '' Bhogali'', '' Mor desh manuhor desh', ''Bohag''.

Pranab Kumar Barman- One of the most popular poet of today's assamese literature is Pranab Kumar Barman. He is from Nalbari.Some of the famous poem of Pranab kumar Barman are- '' xokhi'','' Xondikoi college or tumi xagorika Bordoloi'', Jihetu aji deubar'' etc.
